Confirm the Requirement
Verify that the document or receiving organization specifically requires an acknowledgment.
Bring your complete document and valid identification. Mobile appointments are available throughout Oxford and surrounding areas.
The signer’s identity is confirmed through personal knowledge or satisfactory identification before the acknowledgment is completed.
The signer confirms that the signature was placed on the document voluntarily and for its stated purpose.
Community Notary Services provides professional acknowledgment services for individuals, families, businesses, and signing clients throughout Oxford, Mississippi, and surrounding areas.
During an acknowledgment, the signer personally appears before the notary, provides satisfactory identification, and confirms that the signature on the document is their own voluntary act.
The document may already be signed before the appointment, or it may be signed in the notary’s presence. However, the signer must personally acknowledge the signature before the notarial certificate is completed. Mississippi rules do not permit the document to be signed after the acknowledgment has taken place.
An acknowledgment confirms the identity of the signer and verifies that the signer executed the document willingly for its stated purpose.
Unlike a jurat, an acknowledgment does not require the signer to swear or affirm that the statements within the document are true. The acknowledgment concerns the signer’s identity, signature, willingness, and—when applicable—the authority to sign in a representative capacity.
The notary does not determine whether the document is legally sufficient, whether its terms are accurate, or whether signing it is in the signer’s best interests. The notary’s role is limited to completing the authorized notarial act.
Apostille or authentication requests may involve many types of personal, educational, business, or official documents. The exact process depends on who issued the document and the destination country.
The document preparer or receiving organization should specify whether an acknowledgment is required. Community Notary Services cannot choose the notarial act or legal certificate on the signer’s behalf.
